" say whatever you want oh, I could never judge you be whoever comes into your head oh, you know I'll take you there " [/blockquote] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - [/blockquote] W hen Rhett moved to California he hadn't exactly made plans for housing. He simply packed up his things and hopped on a plane. Once here he only spent two days looking for a place. The Realtor he hired wanted to show him all of these elaborate houses in places he simply didn't like. After the first day she quickly caught on and began showing him lofts in different parts of the city. The third place she showed him was over a privately owned art gallery in Bel air. It was beyond perfect. Sure, it wasn't nearly as big as his loft in New York had been, but hey, he wasn't looking for extravagant. It had a kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and a large open area where he could fit a TV, dining table and still have quite a bit of room for his easel. Since he'd moved in only one person had set foot in the place, and that was him. If he spent time with the few friends he had it was outside of his apartment. Then on a whim he'd invited a girl he'd never actually met over to his apartment this morning. Sure, they where just going to exchange art and have a cup of coffee before she went to work, but that still demanded quite a bit of cleaning on Rhett's part. The night before he had bleached pretty much everything. The three hours he spent cleaning certainly showed. The hard wood floors sparkled, as did the marble counter tops. Sure, there was a still a bit of bleach lingering in the air, but nothing a bit of febreeze couldn't fix. That and a pot of coffee would cover up just about any smell that lingered. After getting about four hours of sleep, Rhett woke at 5:00. Libby wasn't supposed to show up until seven, meaning he was actually pushed for time. You see his morning routine was meticulously planned out. he did the same thing every morning and it took quite a while. Hopefully today wouldn't have one of the dreaded repeats. he crawled out of bed and made it as quick as he could before heading the the bathroom to take a shower. After the ten minute shower he spent at least half an hour to get his hair to look the way he wanted it. This was quick, seeing as he usually spent forty five minutes to an hour. Today just seemed to be a good day. Day that it took him just two hours to get ready where destined to be amazing for their entire duration. It was that simple. Once had was finished in the bathroom Rhett made it way to the closet muttering under his breath. Anyone who knew him would know that he was actually counting each step he took. Others would suspect that he was talking to himself. Neither of these options where pleasant, but Rhett would much prefer the first. He thought it made him seem less insane. It took seven steps to get from his bathroom to his closet, like it did everyday. One would assume that if he already knew exactly how many steps it would take that he wouldn't have to count. Unfortunately, that wasn't how it worked. Rhett knew exactly how many steps it would take him to get just about anywhere in his apartment, but he still counted. Why? Well, his brain told him to. It had never been something he could control. It was a fight he simply couldn't and wouldn't win. So, he counted. Grasping the knob to the closet door he twisted and pulled it open, but before he could get a look at the clothing inside he closed it and opened it two more times. This was another one of his ticks. Sometimes his brain would require him to do things in sets of three. It wasn't everything, just every so often. It wasn't nearly as bad as the counting, but it certainly did get annoying when one was trying to get things done. When the closet was finally open, Rhett searched through his clothing and picked out his favorite blue button up and a pair of black slacks. Most people would have chosen this outfit to go to church or a job interview, but Rhett was the kind of guy who'd wear a tie everyday and not care what other people thought. No tie today, though. He didn't have one that went with that shirt. Placing the shirt and pant on the ironing board Rhett began the second to last phase of his morning routine. Once his clothes where wrinkle free he'd put them on and take the seven steps back to his bathroom in order to brush his teeth. Now do you see just how bad his ticks are? When Rhett says he's odd, he means he's odd. He's never been a fan of exaggeration and would never play things up. Who do you know who spends forty five minutes picking out their clothes and ironing them? Most people around here pay people to do that for them. Even if Rhett hired someone he'd be paying them to do nothing, because there was no way he was going to let someone else touch his things, or do the chore he found necessary. It was a waste of money, money he didn't feel like letting go of. With his morning routine now behind him Rhett started a pot of coffee and began flipping through the canvases leaning against the wall next to his easel. Yes, he had several of his painting displayed on the walls around the loft, but these where his newer works here, and there was a specific one he intended to show Libby. Just after he'd moved here Rhett had spent days and days in front of that easel, staring out the window and painting. His favorite piece that came out of those few days was what most would call an artistic nude, though it was a bit abstract. The anatomically correct human heart that was displayed on the outside of the man's bare chest was the best part, in his mind. What exactly was he thinking when he painted something so graphic? Well, it was metaphorical. He felt as if he had worn his heart on the outside of his chest when he'd been in New York with Scarlet. He'd been in pain when he's painted this, and anyone with sense could tell. Though, he hadn't actually showed it to anyone yet. Pulling it slowly from the rest of the paintings he leaned it against the base of the easel and went back to the pot of coffee. Libby would be here any minute and coffee was a necessity. so give up and give in and start over again but be honest cause you're all i need. --------- the girl was asleep and she shouldn't have been. she should have been up and getting ready. instead , libby sinclair was tangled up in her batman bedsheets , dreaming about god knows ' what. when the alarm went off at six thirty , she hit it with a fist and just looked at the time and suddenly she realized what time it was. the short girl hurriedly out of bed and towards the shower , grabbing a tooth brush on the way in to brush her teeth in the shower. she was supposed to be at rhett's place in about a half hour and she still hadn't eaten or anything. after the quick , three minute shower she headed towards the dresser , her hair drying and dripping water all over her already messy floor. libby has never been one to be organized or dress up but she decided this was the only time that she would get an opportunity to dress up and she figured this was the best time.
she grabbed the almost nicest skirt she owned and pulled it on and also grabbed a pair of black tights and a black and purple shirt and just pulled them on as fast as she could. this girl could get dressed as fast as she wanted to , it was just a matter of how fast she could get over there. she bent backwards to look at the clock and noticed that it was six forty five. she gave a squeak and grabbed a brush and ran it through her hair and threw the brush behind her and grabbed a pair of boots and her messenger bag full of art pieces she did and put it over her shoulder and grabbed a muffin on the table and put it in her mouth before running out the door and locking the door.
she looked like total crap and she felt like it too. caesar was supposed to have been there and wake her up and help her get ready. but the stupid head had drank a bowl of heated robitussin which evidently could be very lethal if warmed up. he was now in the hospital and she would have gone to visit him but she didn't want to disappoint rhett. she felt like she had built a high standard of herself , talking about her love of comic books and whatnot that she felt if she cancelled , he would be let down and not want to talk to her and she hated letting people down. whenever she did , she felt like a total ass and than didn't talk to that person again , in fear that they hated her.
the girl ran down the street , eating a muffin and her bag getting heavier and heavier. she checked the watch on her wrist , it was two minutes to seven and she was almost there. she ran into his building and up the stairs as she threw the muffin wrapper in the trash and finally found his apartment number. she knocked on the door and checked her watch. it was seven ten and she chewed her lip as she waited for him to open the door. she did debate on whether or not to leave but decided against it because than it would be rude of her and she wanted to be a nice person even though she was the most social person out the in world but she figured that she needed friends and this was one way to make them.
hell , the only guy's apartment she has ever been in was caesar's and he was her friend in a kind of annoying way. he had always bugged her about becoming more social and the one time that she was , she made a new friend and now she was over at his apartment. she suddenly felt extremely awkward and vunerable. this wasn't how libby was supposed to act. she wasn't supposed to make friends , she wasn't supposed to be nice to people. libby was supposed to be alone for the rest of her life until her father got better. than she would her father back home and they would live together until he died and than she would died. thats how things were supposed to turn out. why did she talk to caesar ? hell , why did she talk to rhett ? he was nicer than anyone she ever spoke to before and she felt weird about it.

" say whatever you want oh, I could never judge you be whoever comes into your head oh, you know I'll take you there " [/blockquote] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - [/blockquote] T he knock at his front door made Rhett jump slightly. Yes, he had been expecting Libby, but something in the back of his mind was expecting her not to show up. It wouldn't have surprised him one bit if she had changed her mind and decided that hanging out with someone else, or sleeping in was more enticing. Afterall, who wanted to spend the few hours they had before work with someone they had never actually met? The fact that she actually showed boggled his mind. If in fact she had showed. He hadn't opened the door to his loft yet so it was likely he'd be opening the door for a Mormon of a door to door salesman. that little bit of doubt hung in his mind as he set two empty cups on the counter and made his way to the door. Rhett inhaled slowly and collected himself as he reached for the doorknob. This was the moment that would likely screw up the entire potential friendship that he had with the girl who stood on the other side. Slowly unbolting the door and turning the lock Rhett thought about how he was going to do this. Most people don't contemplate how they are going to open a door. Most just throw it open and that's that. Rhett, on the other hand, knew very well that he would have to open and close the door three times before he would be able to let Libby in. When this happened to other people they just assumed he was slamming the door in their faces. In fact he'd done it to Scarlet several times in New York, and she eventually left him. Was this going to be the same way? Was Libby going to freak out and run for cover? He'd warned her about the ticks, but did she really know how bad they where? Giving up on his internal argument, Rhett turned the door knob and opened the door. Catching a glimpse of Libby, his doubt vanished. However, so did she as he quickly closed the door, reopened it, closed it and finally reopened it again. "I really am sorry, love." He said and grinned awkwardly. "It's the ticks." This was an excuse that he'd heard himself use time and time again. Unlike most excuses people used it was legitimate, but he, like others, got really tired of using it. He got tired of having to explain why his life was so odd, or why he muttered under his breath, or why his hands where usually raw or blistered. By this time he didn't want to have to explain. Rhett just wanted it all to disappear. That way he could have healthy relationship. Not just friendships, but real relationships with people like Libby. Wait, had he just thought about having a relationship with a girl that he had just laid eyes on? Well, it probably wasn't that uncommon to her. She was quite pretty, and smart. She must get it all the time. At this point Rhett realized that he hadn't let her in yet. "I'm sorry. Come in. Forgive me, I'm not usually this distracted." It was true. This boy was usually quite focused and didn't have to worry about his mind wandering off to thing it shouldn't. Though, with her around it actually had something to wander to, something far more pleasant than average thoughts. His mind hadn't done this around anyone. Not even Scarlet. Rhett couldn't help but wonder if this was an odd reaction. He was pretty positive that most people didn't drift off and daydream about people they had just met. At least he didn't think they did. Maybe he had just been out of the loop for a while. That was completely possible. As she entered the loft he closed the door behind her and headed back into his small kitchen. "I've got coffee if you would like some." He offered before picking up the shiny steel pot and pouring two cups of coffee. Even if she didn't want coffee it was only polite to offer, and apparently pour as well. Maybe Rhett was going a little bit overboard with the manners at this point, but what else was he supposed to do? If he didn't keep his hands busy he was likely to stand in front of the sink for hours and wash his hands. He was actually having that craving at the moment. Resisting that was difficult, but he managed to hold off long enough o finish pouring the coffee before he took the two steps to stand in front of his sink. This was surprisingly the first time that he'd washed his hands today, but as he washed the soap from his hands he could tell that there would be several more. So far the conversation had been little to none and he didn't have much to add to it. The next comment out of his mouth was "Cream or sugar?" Rhett hadn't even heard her accept or turn down the coffee. It wasn't because he had been ignoring her, but for a moment his obsessive nature had taken over, and his mind was focused solely on his hands and his hands alone. Once he realized this he had the sudden urge to apologize, again. He tried to resist because he knew that people didn't really appreciate apology after apology. However, he could suppress it. "I really do apologize. Sometimes my ticks just take over, The door thing, and then my hands. I can't apologize enough." Sure, it sounded a bit pathetic, but it was sincere. [/blockquote]

hollywood hills and suburban thrills i'm not like them , i won't buy in. --------- her emotions were high strung as ever as she waited for the boy to open the door. she wasn't usually like this. libby didn't accept invitations to random people's houses. she had to plan things out meticulously. everything had to be in order and everything planned. she wasn't random and unpredictable like most LA girls. she had to write down the date , time , and who she was going with in her date book. than she had to find out things about that even before actually going. who was attending , will there be food , and so on and so forth. it sounded crazy but she just had to do it. it made her feel at ease and she enjoyed that feeling a lot.
she heard footsteps as she waited patiently for the door to open. she took a look behind her and the door opened and shut
